Originally from Centerton, Indiana, bassoonist Yvonne Kershaw has lived in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada since 1991.  She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Butler University and a Master’s Degree in Bassoon Performance from Indiana University.  Yvonne’s teachers include James Hansen, Charles Rader, Sidney Rosenberg and Christopher Weait. After receiving her Master’s Degree, Yvonne freelanced and taught in the Seattle, Washington area. She has been a member of New Brunswick’s provincial orchestra, Symphony New Brunswick, since 1991.

Yvonne regularly performs in New Brunswick Summer Music Festival at the University of New Brunswick as well as the annual Bathurst Chamber Music Festival in Bathurst, NB. Yvonne also performs with Atlantic Sinfonia and other ensembles in Atlantic Canada. She teaches several courses in the Music Department at the University of New Brunswick, teaches bassoon and flute at the UNB Conservatory, and was the Bassoon Coach for the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra.

Yvonne enjoys playing chamber music with a variety of instruments. Her recording with classical guitarist Steven Peacock, “Canciones y Leyendas: Songs and Legends for Bassoon and Guitar,” was nominated for an East Coast Music Award. This recording includes Atlantic Canadian Folk Music, Renaissance Music, Baroque Music, Spanish Music, Spirituals and other tunes. She hopes to record another CD of music for bassoon and classical guitar in the near future.
