
Étienne Chénard reveived a “Prix avec distinction” in viola at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec in 2016. He studied with François Paradis, Catherine Dallaire and Élise Lavoie in Rimouski and Québec City.
Étienne learned violin, viola and chamber music at Domaine Forget Academy and Orford Art Center working with Anne Robert, Helmut Lipksy, Mark Fewer, David Gilham, Mimi Zweig, François Paradis, Jocelyne Bastien, Arthur-Leblanc String Quartet, Vera Beth and Kenneth Slowik. He received master classes from Christian Tetzlaff, Antoine Tamestit, Roberto Diaz, Paul Silverthorne, Jean Sulem, and Miguel DaSilva.
Since 2024, he is Alto 3e chaise of Orchestre Symphonique de Québec. Prior to this position, he was Assistant Principal Viola of Symphony Nova Scotia and occupied the same chair in both Orchestre Symphonique de Sherbrooke and de l’Estuaire. He’s a regular substitute with Les Violons du Roy. Étienne particularly loves to play chamber music. He has participated in Concerts aux Îles du Bic, Cecilia Concerts, Barachois Summer Music, Inner Space Concerts and Music at Three Church,
Etienne plays a 1845 Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume Viola and a Morgan Andersen bow. Both are generously loan by CANIMEX Inc.
