Richard Hornsby, Director of UNB’s Centre for Musical Arts, is an active performer, educator, arts administrator and arts advocate. A specialist in clarinets, he performs as a soloist and chamber musician with many groups. Since coming to New Brunswick, he founded and co-founded several notable organizations and ensembles, including UNB Music Camp and Musical Ventures Inc., parent organization of Atlantic Sinfonia and New Brunswick Summer Music Festival. Richard also serves as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Fredericton Symphony Orchestra.

As a volunteer and advocate, Richard has been active on the local, provincial, and national levels, including serving as President of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, President of the New Brunswick Arts Board, and President of the New Brunswick Arts Council. He is passionate about the role of the arts in our society, and works on issues of arts education, status of the artist, access to the arts and training for cultural workers through a variety of organizations.

In 2024, Richard was recognized with both the Playhouse Honours and the City of Fredericton’s Arts Achievement Award.
