Sébastien Sirois is a double bassist originally from Madawaska County, New Brunswick, where he is now based after a diverse musical journey. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Université de Moncton under the guidance of Monica Lang and Andrew Miller, while also being a member of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra (NBYO). Upon completing his studies, he became actively involved in the Atlantic music scene and joined the Moncton Sistema NB Centre as a teaching artist, where he discovered the full social and human impact of the program’s mission.

Wishing to deepen his musical expression, Sébastien went on to study jazz performance with André Lachance at Capilano University in North Vancouver, before returning to put down roots in his home region.

Over the years, he has performed with several ensembles, including Symphony New Brunswick, the Prince Edward Island Symphony, Tutta Musica Orchestra, Triade, LeMelawndo Trio, the Madvic Ensemble, and he is currently the principal double bassist of the Orchestre Philharmonique du Haut-Saint-Jean. He also performs with various small folk, jazz, and film music groups. Passionate about stylistic diversity, he enjoys performing equally in symphony orchestras, chamber music, and small jazz or other ensembles—always guided by a desire to share his love for the double bass.

Sébastien continues to work as a teaching artist with Sistema NB and, since 2019, has served as director of the Edmundston centre, which is becoming increasingly important in the local community.

He is also the proud father of two wonderful children, whom he has the joy of raising with his partner, Megan.
